Company History
Optical Software Inc. began in 1983 in Moncton as Ocean
Software, as an effort to develop and market a comprehensive
computer system for the optical industry. 1989 saw the
introduction of new investors and the formation a new
company named Optical Software Inc. Since that time,
Optical Software Inc. has opened a sales and support office in
Greensboro, North Carolina.
Optical Software is successfully marketing products
against world class competition, and is ranked among the
top 3 lens processing software products in our
industry. In 1995 OMICS was one of three nominees for an
Optical Laboratories Association Award of Excellence in Lens
Processing Software. Major accounts include Aearo Safety
(a safety lab) in Canada, the U.S. and England, as well as
Essilor America, (a major lens manufacturer), and Walmart
Vision Labs in the US. OMICS was chosen by these
industry leaders because of its flexibility and technical
superiority. Optical Software has successfully
developed a number of strong relationships within the optical
community including equipment manufacturers, lens
manufacturers, laboratory buying groups, wholesale
laboratories, large and small retail chains, etc.
To date, Optical Software has installed over 400 systems in
3 continents. The majority of OMICS customers are wholesale
optical laboratories, although a number of customers are
practitioners with small in house labs. Our average customer
is usually processing approximately 300-400 Rx jobs per day in
a multi-user network application. However our customer
size ranges from the 20 job per day practitioner to the super
lab processing 5000+ jobs per day for 2500 retail
stores.
